Inspiration: Cynthia Rowley Bouquet Recipe

Fashion Week was last week, and it inspired me to finally use this amazing Cynthia Rowley ribbon to create a bouquet.  As soon as I saw it at Jo-ann Fabric and Crafts, and I just had to have it.  The colorful confetti look makes me want to drop everything and party!  The natural choice for flowers was a mix of lots of bright fun colors, and being a texture lover I grabbed lots of fun novelty stems like green trick, thistle, and celosia!  Hope everyone had a fabulous fashion week, I love living vicariously through all your style pics and runway shows!

Saturday Matinee: Ruche Spring Lookbook

I'm sure everyone has seen the lovely images from the latest Ruche Spring Lookbook.  I have to say that I'm not gonna lie one of my favorite things about the whole shoot are the giant flowers, but eveyrthing about it is dreamy and totally inspiring.

Saturday Matinee: Peggy Noland

I was browsing the internets the other day (yes I said internetS, get over it), and I came across this lovely little clip of Peggy Noland, talking about how she started working in fashion, and started her store.  I think my favorite thing about it is not only that she, along with the clothes she makes are visually interesting, but her positive attitude is totally infections and inspiring.  Hooray for Kansas City!

Summer Crowns

I posted a little teaser image from this summertime styled shoot I participated in with The Concrete Catwalk, and Eliza Jane Photography, and I'm finally posting the final images.  Jessie wanted something ethereal and sweet, and I think that the crowns add just the right balance to the summery outfits she styled.  Plus the photography by Courtney is total perfection.  These crowns were my first attempt, and I had a lot of fun trying something new, a perfect combo of flowers and accessories (some of my favoritie things).  I'd love to add floral styling for photo shoots to my repetoire.

Collaboration: Summer Photo Shoot

I was recently contacted by my dear friend Jessie Artigue of The Concrete Catwalk to do some floral crowns for a summer fashion shoot she was going to be doing.  I jumped at the chance to stretch my floral creativity a bit by doing something a little out of the ordinary.  Although I couldn't stick around for the shoot (I had to set up the fabulous wedding of Emmie and Ben), I got to see a teaser shot via the lovely Courtney of Eliza Jane Photography

Blog Crush: This Time Tomorrow

There have been plenty of times that I find a cute item of clothing and I'm just not sure how to style it.  I consider myself pretty innovative with my own sense of style, but some lovely pieces pose special challenges.  So it's always nice to have great fashion blogs to turn to for styling advice.  Enter "This Time Tomorrow", one of my favorite fashionistas.

Her outfits always have lots of layers and fun elements (especially the shoes an accessories).  Plus she gets a lot of her items from thrift stores, F21, Urban, or H&M, so the style she demonstrates isn't unattainable for the average girl.  Plus her hair, ugh, it's to die for!  Here's a few of my favorite recent outfit posts:

Your City: 18th Street Fashion Show

If you are a fashion lover and you live in Kansas City the 18th Street Fashion show is a must see event every summer.  With a different theme each year, and a group of talented local designers it draws quite the crowd.  This will be my first year attending, as in previous years I've always had plans on the same date.  I'm so excited for the show, it looks like they have some amazing designers lined up.  It's a free event Saturday June 12th, starting at 8pm, 18th and Wyandotte.  Here's some fun pics from years past:

What to Wear?: First outfit post

Hello loves.  As a blogger who is obsessed with fashion, it is inevitable that I end up looking at tons and tons of style blogs.  I always check out what other girls are wearing and think about how cute it is.  I decided to go ahead and start doing a few of these posts myself.  This is my very first one, so excuse the poor photography (however it did give me a chance to try out my new tripod and remote).  This outfit came almost completely from a clothing swap I did back in the winter with Jessie from The Concrete Catwalk, and several other fun ladies.  Hope you enjoy!

Your City Thursday: The Concrete Catwalk and Style & Pepper

Good day lovelies,

Today I want to use Your City Thursday to promote an awesome local business, blog, and all around cute lady (also a new member of our "Sponsor/Homies" sidebar).  Recently seen in the fashion issue of INK Magazine, Jessie Artique is one of our local Kansas City entrepreneurs.  Author, photographer, and creator of the Kansas City street style blog The Concrete Catwalk, Jessie also recently launched her own business Style & Pepper, and is the only person I know who can use the phrase "sweetie pie" and make it sound cool.  Specializing in all things fashion she offers services such as closet consultations, event ensemble, and photo shoot styling.  Check out both her websites now and get inspired by this fashionable Kansas Citian!

love, emily

Decisions, decisions

The other night Matt and I went to the new "blanc burger" on the Plaza to take a much needed break (me from painting, him from working).  After enjoying my always delicious Turkey Burger and fries along with a heifeweizen or two, Matt, to my surprise said that we could shop a bit.  I'm not going to say no to that.

We walked over to Urban, I knew exactly what I wanted to try on.  A dress I had been eyeing for awhile now, but had no illusion of buying.  However whilst shopping around the store I also found a black 3/4 sleeve boyfriend blazer.  I know I am way behind here, but I've wanted one since last season, and thank goodness they remain in style.  After trying on both it was decision time:

And although it was hard to part with either, I made the big girl decision and went with the blazer that I could wear with all kinds of outfits and probably for much longer into the Spring season as well.  How mature.
