Cory and Josh's Kansas Real Wedding, June 2012

yellow, teal, and white wedding
Cory was one of the most laid back brides I've ever worked with.  We started planning her wedding while she was out of town, exchanging e-mails and inspiration, and then I sent her a proposal without ever meeting her in person.  She wanted something fun, and just a touch rustic/wildflowery to match the surroundings of her wedding in Olathe, Kansas.  Bright sunshine yellow and a bit of ivory were the perfect compliment to the teal blue accents that ran throughout her event.  Like Cory the reception space was decorated in a laid back manner, and we used our vintage screen as a backdrop for her outdoor ceremony. Pictures by C R Photography, and emmy-ray.

Inspiration and Editorial Shoots: 1950's Wedding at Longview Mansion

I-CV74vkR-XL
Lord knows we absolutely adore a good inspiration shoot now and then.  We got together with the same team that brought you our Bohemian Love Shoot, except this time with a 1950's flair.  The venue, Longview Mansion, is a gorgeous piece of Kansas City history, and once again the talents of Cassandra Castaneda Photography, and rak designs, along with our florals brought the inspiration to life.  When the girls told me what we were doing I immediately started looking at pictures of bouquets from the 50's.  One thing that stood out was of course babies breath, lots of pastel colors, and big blooms.  I also remember seeing a very old photo of a 1950's bride.  All she was wearing was one giant orchid as a corsage, so I knew I wanted to include them in the flowers.  It was super windy, super balmy summer day, but our models were amazing, and we got some great shots to add to our portfolios.

Emily and Will's River Market Event Place Real Wedding, June 2012

IMG_1746

There's so much I could say about Emily and Will's wedding, but the word that I think sums it up best is collaboration.  Emily is creative, or at least she had a true vision of what she wanted her day to look like.  I was thrilled to work with a client who gave us so much creative freedom.  She wanted lots and lots of colors, and we used our very favorite glassware, which we started collecting especially for her event.  I think the thing that I liked best about her bouquets and arrangements was the variety of color, and texture.  Tons of different blooms and elements, and we had a lot of fun creating the backdrop for her ceremony at the River Market Event Place as well.  Pictures by one of our favorite photo ladies, Melissa Lin Ellis.

Flowers to Wear: One Giant Peony

Peony Hat-2

Creating flowers to wear is one of my favorite facets of my job.  I started emmy-ray as a jewelry and accessory design business, so taking fresh flowers and making beautiful hair accessories, or jewelry out of them is natural.  It's always fun to think outside the box, and it's refreshing in a way to give a different life to such a fleeting, ethereal item.  I had a few flowers leftover from Emily and Will's wedding (which I'll be sharing tomorrow), giant, beautiful flowers like cafe au lait dahlias, coral charm peonies, and giant purple allium.  What else to do but make hats out of them of course?

I hope you enjoyed my first Flowers to Wear post.  I hope to make it a regular feature from now on.
