Inspiration: Cynthia Rowley Bouquet Recipe

Fashion Week was last week, and it inspired me to finally use this amazing Cynthia Rowley ribbon to create a bouquet.  As soon as I saw it at Jo-ann Fabric and Crafts, and I just had to have it.  The colorful confetti look makes me want to drop everything and party!  The natural choice for flowers was a mix of lots of bright fun colors, and being a texture lover I grabbed lots of fun novelty stems like green trick, thistle, and celosia!  Hope everyone had a fabulous fashion week, I love living vicariously through all your style pics and runway shows!

For the Love of Flowers: Katie and Chris, May 2012

The summer heat wave pretty much started the day of Katie and Chris' wedding, or at least it seemed like it did.  However the lovely flowers we got in screamed spring, yellow and white tulips, pink peonies, and fun textural succulents.  Plus Katie and her mom gave me a bunch of beautiful vintage hat pins, and brooches that belonged to her grandmother to add to her bouquet.  All in all a super fun wedding, and one of the craziest (and quickest) room flips we've ever done!  Thanks to Katie and Chris for having us, and to Heather Brulez Photography for the lovely images!

For the Love of Flower: Will and Lea

My very favorite events to work on are ones for my friends.  It's not often that I get to actually attend a clients wedding, and see them enjoy the fruits of our labor.  I've known Will since I was 15 years old, and he and Lea are a perfect pair.  Both of them love the arts, and Lea gave me her color palette, and an awful lot of creative freedom.  Bright pinks, reds, oranges, greens, and touches of yellow made up the floral palette, and we threw in some lovely teal blue with our collection of vintage glassware.  Doing Will and Lea's flowers reminded me a lot of my wedding with the bright, bold color scheme, and we had a lot of fun celebrating with them and all our friends that night.  Thank you both for hosting such a fun event, and for letting us be part of your day!  Also to K&D Photography for the lovely images of the happy couple. For the bouquet we used garden roses, ranunculus, freesia, billy balls, and lily of the valley from Will and Lea's garden.

Yellow Pom Poms and Butterflies

Right now we're in the depths of wedding season, busy, busy, busy, but back in February and March things were a bit slower.  When I haven't had a chance to work with flowers I always get the itch.  I went to the market and did a little flower shopping grabbing some bright colore orange ranunculus, and lots of textural elements like heather, acacia, and thistle (does anyone love acacia as much as me?)  I added a few little butterflies for a bit of pink and wrapped it all up with a sweet bit of grosgrain ribbon from Paper Source.  Ah, this little bouquet definitely did the trick! (Click "Continue Reading" to see more).

Floral Friday: A Touch of Mint

It's Friday, Friday, and we're on a break this week from weddings because of the holidays.  However I wanted to share a perfectly springy bunch of flowers that I put together for a wedding show a bit ago.  Everytime I do a show it's a chance for me to play with whatever flowers I want.  What can be better than going to the wholesaler and "flower shopping"?  Nothing really, not even shopping for clothes (yes I said it).  For this event at Californo's I wanted the table to have a fresh spring look, so I went with a pastel color palette, and added some mint green ribbon that I bought on clearance just for fun.  The peonies were GEEEEEORGEOUS, I thought they almost looked fake they were so perfect.

Floral Friday: A Sorbet Themed Shower Shoot

Yesterday I shared a behind the scenes look at the photo shoot I was so excited to style for KC Weddings Magazine.  Today I've got the some images form the magazine.  It always amazes me how a photo can make all the details look so amazing, and the KC Weddings photographers definitely know what they're doing.

For the Love of Flower: Kristi and Joe, October 2011

Kristi and Joe's wedding was a bit different than usual because I didn't do the personal flowers.  Instead they were put together by some designers I really admire, Blue Bouquet.  However I really loved working on their wedding at The Hobbs Building, which is actually where my husband and I had our reception.  Kristi definitely wanted to embrace the fall vibe, but didn't want it to be the usual palette of oranges, reds, and golds.  Blue Bouquet came up with a beautiful concept that included soft peaches and pinks, alongside dark crimson dahlias, and smokebush.  Kristi also wanted us to add in dried green hydrangea that she and her mom had purchased.  I'd never worked with them before but they were fabulous and really filled out the arrangements nicely.  A big thank you to Kristi and Joe for letting us be part of your day!

For the Love of Flowers: Sarah and Brian

Oh boy, I can hardly contain myself and my excitement for today's post.  First it was one of my favorite weddings of 2011, and two it was for my dear friends Sarah and Brian.  There's a lot of pictures here folks, so bear with me (although they're all full of sweet wedding inspired goodness, so it's definitely worth it).

I've known Sarah since college.  The weird thing is that we didn't become good friends until my very last semester, but I'm glad we did.  She's creative, generous, and I truly enjoy traveling back to visit her.  She definitely found her match with Brian.  They're such a complimentary couple, and when they're together it's easy to see how at ease they are, and how much they love each other.

Sarah loves fall, so she definitely wanted to celebrate the colors of the season in the decor for the wedding, without making it stereotypical.  We went with lots of textural blooms in oranges and reds, and then added in some peaches and golds to soften things up.  She's also collected milk glass for years and years, so it was an easy choice for the containers.

For each table we mixed in ghost pumpkins, gourds, candles, and succulents for a multi layered effect.  Sarah is a talented graphic designer and created all the escort cards and table numbers herself.

For the personal flowers we used the same mix of flowers, but without any of the greens except a collar of dusty miller.  I wrapped the bouquets in off white silk ribbons and jute.  The men wore boutonnieres with a golden spray rose, billy balls, succulents, and dusty miller.

I also created some bridal accessories for Sarah including her birdcage veil that she wore for the ceremony, and then a headband with pleated silk pinwheels for the reception.  She even had a dress change (I told her she was like a celebrity).

I absolutely loved their cake, isn't it gorgeous!  They held their event at the Crescent Hotel in Eureka Springs.  It was an amazing old hotel that is supposedly haunted.  As lovers of all things vintage it was the perfect spot for Sarah and Brian.  They had their ceremony in a beautiful chapel in the middle of the woods.
