3 years and counting...

Today is Matt and I's 3rd wedding anniversary.  That's right, 3 years married, 11 years together.  I was looking back through pictures to use for this post and it's crazy to see how much time that really is, and how we've literally grown up together.  I'm so happy to be married to such a generous, intelligent, and amazing husband, and I can't wait to celebrate with a special dinner out tonight.  Happy Anniversary Matt!

For the Love of Flowers: Shannon and Nathan

Purples been a huge color this year.  It seems that about half of the weddings that I've done in 2011 have had purple, and sometimes another color as the palette.  Shannon and Nathan's wedding was great to work on, because it allowed me to explore a new way of thinking about design.  Shannon definitely wanted a little bit of glamour for her event, so we used hanging crystals, feathers, and tons of candle light.  I wanted to keep the purple from getting to monochromatic, so we used a range of shades in lavendar, plum, and magenta.  Plus I got to wrap her bouquet in purple velvet ribbon from Midori.  So fun! Beautiful images compliments of Wirken Photography.

Word on the Street: SPACES Magazine, and KC Weddings

I was so excited in the months of June and July to have bow ties featured in both SPACES Magazine, and KC Weddings Magazine.  They also shot a few of my headpieces for a bridal beauty shoot, and a succulent bouquet.  The succulent bouquet was created for an editorial spread that was supposed to feature bouquets with alternatives to flowers.  It was a fun challenge, and a great way to stretch my floral creativity.  emmy-ray was also on The Knot's local blog, with a picture of the bouquet I made for Betsy and Jonathan's wedding (still one of my favorites).

Saturday Matinee: Geeks or Posers?

I have to admit I've always been curious about Comi-Con.  I dabbled in super-hero's as a kid, Batman and X-men were my favorite cartoons on TV.  However my geek quotient definitely went up when I started dating and married Matt.  I probably know way too much about action movies, and comics than the average woman I'm friends with.  I love this video calling out celebrities on not being real "geeks" and was actually pretty proud to find that I knew all but one of the answers to the questions.  Rock on geeks, rock on.

For the Love of Flowers: Erin and Shannon

Erin was a dream to work with (I know I say that about every bride, but hey I've had some good ones!)  Her and her fiance Shannon were also a Stowe Building couple (a local event space that booked weddings and then shut down before the season even started).  They wanted a space with character, and ended up having their ceremony and reception at Drexel Hall, a beautiful, super old building that used to be a theatre.  Erin wanted bright fun colors to compliment the overall black and white theme.  At market that week I was lucky enough to snag some beautiful magenta garden roses, and the dahlias came in gorgeous as well.  Take a look...

I've been waiting for the perfect opportunity to use this beautiful black and white Midori ribbon.

Summer Crowns

I posted a little teaser image from this summertime styled shoot I participated in with The Concrete Catwalk, and Eliza Jane Photography, and I'm finally posting the final images.  Jessie wanted something ethereal and sweet, and I think that the crowns add just the right balance to the summery outfits she styled.  Plus the photography by Courtney is total perfection.  These crowns were my first attempt, and I had a lot of fun trying something new, a perfect combo of flowers and accessories (some of my favoritie things).  I'd love to add floral styling for photo shoots to my repetoire.

For the Love of Flowers: Emmie and Ben

One of my favorite current color combo trends for 2011 is aqua and red/pink, so when I met with Emmie I was super excited that this was the palette for her and Ben's wedding.  Unfortunately for this lovely couple they were booked at the Stowe Building (a Kansas City venue that got shut down), but they handled the situation gracefully and everything turned out beautiful.  We were able to inject their personality into their day, and give it the eclectic vibe they were wanting.  It was such a fun wedding to work on, and I can't thank Emmie and Ben enough for choosing us as the designers for their big day.

The Money Pit: A Sea of Zinnias

So as promised the zinnias have bloomed, and despite this brutal heat have continued to spring up.  I think one of my very favorite things about this flower is that each one is truly individual.  Different colors and variations, each one's a little piece of eye candy.
