For the Love of Flowers: Heidi and Zeb

This past weekend I got the chance to do wedding flowers for what has to be one of my favorite weddings to date (I know I say that every time).  With rich hues of purple and blue and a beautiful selection of flowers everything came out amazing.

One of my favorite things about this wedding was not only the color but the amount of freedom Heidi gave me.  We discussed what she wanted as far as colors and style and then she just let me design.  Below are a few snaps I took after we set up.  I forgot my SLR (darn) but you get the idea...

 Beautiful bride and groom.

Zeb is a writer and fan of comics so there were comic book elements throughout the wedding, including this custom POW! sign I created for them.

The dahlia's are beautiful this time of year.

Groupings of bud vases and milk glass, and vintage fabric runners with different patterns were on all the tables.

Thanks so much and congratulations to Heidi and Zeb for letting me be part of your awesome wedding.  I hope I was able to help make your wildest dreams come true!

10 years and running...

Today is our anniversary.  We've been together for 10 years, and married for 2.  It still amazes me to think that it's been that long, and yet we can still manage to surprise and learn from each other.  This day 2 year ago was the beginning of our new life together and I can't wait to see what the many more to come hold in store for us...

A "Freckled Nest" Give Away

Hey loves, and happy hump day to everyone!  I've been a busy bee this and last week with two weddings that I've been working on.  I can hardly wait for the one coming up this weekend.  It's a sweet friend of mine from high school, Heidi, and her talented fiance, Zeb (he just won an Emmy).  We have similar quirky taste and style and their wedding includes: vintage fabric, monochromatic bridesmaids bouquets in all varieties of flowers, tons of milk glass and vintage glassware, and a custom made Lichtenstein style "POW" sign.  I'll try to take tons of snaps to share with you next week.

But on to the real reason for my post.  I'm participating in a give away over at Freckled Nest this week.  It's a pair of my dangly hand made enameled earrings, so pop on over and check out the awesome booty sweet Leigh-Ann has rounded up for you.  Enter by August 30th and you could win a total of 11, that's right 11 prizes!

Everyone else sent a picture of themselves for Leigh-Ann to post, but not me.  So here I am, hello friends!

A little more about these earrings and my jewelry in general for anyone new to emmy-ray: Yes these earrings are hand made.  People often ask if they are vintage pieces that I just put together.  While these do start out as pre-cut copper stampings, many of my pieces are hand cut and fabricated from sheet metal and wire.  Next the copper pieces get enameled in my kiln and I add high fire decals that are either vintage or of my own design.  Next I put all the pieces together, and wah lah, hand made jewelry goodness!

Good luck, I hope you win!

Pop: Joan Holloway and Mad Men

Happy Monday lovelies.  I've been catching up on Mad Men.  I know, I know, I'm way behind on how great the show is, and as someone who is a lover of all things vintage I should have started watching a long time ago.  However I couldn't help but share my love of Joan Holloway.  A tad on the bitchy side, she's a beautiful, curvy, red head, which is refreshing to see on TV these days.  And the styling for her on the show?  I die...

Floral Inspiration: Modern shapes and sizes

After a whole month off from doing any weddings it's time to get back into the swing of things.  I've got one wedding this Saturday and then one on August 28th.  I'm excited for both, and so in the spirit of all things floral I just thought I'd share a little inspiration from one of my favorite designer's blogs.  BORNAY floral design is located in Barcelona.  I think what I love about them most is their unique design aesthetic and their ability to transform "ordinary" flowers like carnations, mums, and roses into beautiful works of art:

Fleur Rings Return

I'm excited to announce that I've re-posted some, and will finish posting the rest of my Fleur Rings in my Etsy shop this week.  If you're in the market for some seriously fun cocktail rings check them out.  However take note that they are for small ring sizes only.  But fear not emmy-ray fans, my goal for this coming fall's new line is to create some new Fleur Rings in adjustable and/or larger sizes.

Cut Paper Installation by Andy Singleton

Hello my lovelies, and Happy Monday to you all.  In the last few months I've been falling further and further behind on my Google Reader.  Real life has given me no time to enjoy reading all the sites that inspire me so much.  However last week I was able to catch up and I found some really amazing and lovely things.  What I wanted to share with you today was this cut paper installation by artist Andy Singleton.

Titled "Dust Clouds in the Eagle Nebula" it's a super detailed and
inspiring piece of work.  One of my favorite parts: because it's cut
paper, it's slightly 3-D and the paper itself is interesting visually,
but also the shadows created by the parts that stand out from the wall
create details in the negative spaces as well.

DIY: Studded ballet slippers

Summer in Kansas City has been brutally hot these past few weeks.  So what better time to stay inside and do some crafting?  I found this super cute DIY tutorial the other day on Orange Juice, etc. and I wanted to share the link.  Can't wait to give it a try, I think I'll do black for the fall...

Summer in Versailles

I feel like I've been traveling a lot this summer, and of course loving every minute of it.  However I came across these beautiful pictures taken by the talented Taza over at rockstar diaries.  Summer in Versailles, how could a girl not be jealous?

My So Called Life: New Orleans Edition

Hello blog friends, and sorry it's been such a long while.  I'm back and fully recovered from my trip to New Orleans.  I had such a wonderful time, and I can see why so many people have developed a love for this city of the South.  There was lots of food, drink, and dancing, but one thing I loved most was just walking around and taking pics of the French Quarter.  Although I was only there for a short while you can easily tell that it's a city that's rich with history, and I can't wait to go back someday.
