Claw footed couch, I mean bathtub, I mean both!

As the official blogger for the Wedding Hive I was contacted the other day by one of the members, Jill Morrison of Ruff House Art, a letterpress artist, graphic designer, and local girl.  She wanted to let me know about a fun project she had been working on, and while I didn't blog about it on the Wedding Hive website, it was just too cool to pass up.

In this day and age of re-purposing everything I am totally loving these bathtubs turned couches.  Jill was inspired to create her first tub/couch by images she found in a high end design magazine.  She said that her family was "skeptical" about the design at first but loved the results.  She received so many compliments from visitors to her home that on a whim she listed the tub couches on Etsy.

Withing 48 hours Jill was contacted by a restaurant designer in New York decorating with all re-purposed items.  Jill was later commissioned by American Spirit Cigarettes to create these pieces inspired by their branding.  Not only do I love the shape of these two, especially next to each other, but I also think the color choices and print for the cushions are fabu!  Great job Jill.

My So Called Life: Google reader is O.O.C.

I've been really busy in life lately which means that I've been neglecting my online "situation".  How daunting is the task to ready 1000+ posts on Google Reader?  Some people post three times a day.  Wow, I only wish, but I have shiz to do.  Not to say that those people don't, they are probably lucky enough to blog full time and get paid for it.  Damn!

After back to back to back weddings it's nice to take a few weeks off before my next one on June 5th.  It's an Italian wedding, so needless to say there will be a lot of people which= a lot of flowers.

I'm working my buns off right now to produce jewelry for the two upcoming art/craft events I'm participating in this summer.  Stay tuned for more details.  One of them I'm helping to coordinate, so I hope that it will be a total success.

After a morning full of productive work, I'm lazing on the porch and catching up with some old friends from the internets.  And don't worry, I'm in good company...

For the Love of Flowers: Claudia and James

On May 15th my dear friends Claudia and James got married.  Not only was I delighted to be the maid of honor, but I also got to take part in making their special day beautiful with flowers.  Even though I usually do a good job of documenting my weddings, I thought this time I'd leave it to the pro's.  Thanks to the talented Lindsay Pierce for the great shots!  Hopefully more to come.

Congratulations Claudia and James, I love you guys!

This  bouquet was simple and elegant with peonies, roses, and lisianthus.  It weighed a ton, but according to the bride is still kicking.

I also designed a custom jewelry set for all the bridesmaids.  I love me some pearls and rhinestones!  You can purchase this design in my Etsy shop, or order some for your own wedding party.

Music Monday: Marina and the Diamonds

Found this little gem (hehe) of a band and video last week.  Been humming this catchy tune in my head all weekend long and couldn't resist sharing the fun video.  What girl wouldn't love lips encrusted with Swaroski Crystals and lots of hair flipping?

New item on Etsy: Custom Pearl Necklace and Earring Set

I designed this set for my dear friend Claudia's wedding.  The bridesmaids looked lovely in their black dresses accented by the pearl and rhinestone jewelry.  I decided to make some more of these sets, they are posted in my Etsy shop right now.  Each set is customizable in many colors to match your wedding, but readily available in white and ivory.  The satin ribbon tie offers versatility.  Could also be worn to dress up a tee and jeans for a night out.

For the Love of Flowers: Leah and Andrew, Part Two

Hello loves.  I couldn't help but share with you a few more snaps from Leah and Andrew's wedding taken by Kansas City photography team Sparrow Photography.  I think that when you see the bride and groom with the flowers it gives them a whole new meaning, wouldn't you agree?  Plus I am just loving everything about this real wedding, from the brides pink shoes, to the grey suits worn by the groom and his guys.  Perfect for spring!

I loved Leah's dress, it was so textural and whimsical.  Plus her fascinator with purple feathers was the perfect replacement for a veil.

emmy-ray is now selling at Colfax

That's right loves, you can now get a piece of emmy-ray at another Kansas City location.  Colfax boutique opened a few short weeks ago at Westport 39 (the corner of 39th and Pennsylvania).  The store is owned by Terry Richardson, formerly of Revue Boutique.  It features work by local talents, including tons of jewelry, hand bags, and clothing, as well as sun glasses and other accessories.  They are open Friday-Sunday, kind of like a fashion flea market, and also are open to booking events in the space.  Find out a bit more in this Pitch article or stop on by!  Find all of the new pieces from the "One Of" line for sale there.  Happy shopping.

Etsy Love: Hey There Cupcake!

It's been awhile since I've done an Etsy showcase, so as I'm working today at bon bon atelier, it feels like a good time to showcase all things hand made.  I'm pretty hungry right now, and one of my favorite foods is cupcakes.  Thinking about the Choco-Latte from Dolce Bakery is making my stomach growl.  Plus who doesn't find cupcakes adorable?  Enjoy this dose of cuteness:

For the Love of Flowers: Tracy and Chris

Hello loves.  On the eve of one wedding I'm posting about last weeks flowers.  The couple for this wedding was Tracy and Chris.  Tracy was a great bride to work with.  She gave me the perfect spring palette and basically said "Go for it".  Warm colors like pinks, oranges, and a splash of white and purple made for a lovely contrast.  With one of the most beautiful orders of flowers I've ever gotten the bouquets and arrangements turned out lovely, enough to make the bride squeal with delight when she saw them.  Always a great feeling!

Wednesday Already?

And I haven't posted a thing yet.  I guess when life gets busy I haven't yet mastered the art of keeping up on my blog.  Well my lovelies, it's finally come, one of my besties is getting married this week and I couldn't be more excited.  I am the M.O.H. as well as the florist, and jewelry designer, so along with my many hats come many tasks. Yesterdays activities included driving around town all day looking for black ribbon, and a place that could print programs, then an evening spent with pizza, C's family, and a fore mentioned programs.  I'm loving every minute of it, especially since I get to hang with C,
who now lives in Chicago far far away from me (well maybe not that far,
but far enough)!

Congratulations to C & J, a perfect pair!  I know you will have a beautiful wedding day and a beautiful life together.

Gotta Have It: Pendant Watches

For the longest time I've been craving a pendant watch, and when I say longest time I mean a few years.  There's just something so fun about wearing a watch around your neck, it reminds me of a proper gentlemen's pocket watch.  Since I am never ever without a few jewels on me I think it's something I could commit to wearing everyday, maybe wrap it around my wrist on some days?  What do you think?

Pretty in Pink

As a jewelry designer and also a floral designer I often have brides request custom jewelry from me for their weddings.  Although I am not a huge fan of production jewelry (making the same thing over and over), doing it for a wedding is the exception to the rule.  Maybe it's because it's for a special occasion, or that it's just one more thing to help make a bride and her bridesmaids day special, but I really love creating these pieces.  Tracy's colors are pinks, oranges, and purples, and I designed this custom jewelry suite for her bridesmaids.  The biggest pay off, the exclamation of excitement when she saw the finished products.

love,  emily

For the Love of Flowers: Leah and Andrew

Hello loves, today I have some floral treats from last weekends wedding.  Leah and Andrew found me online, and I have to say that they have been such an easy and fun couple.  Although she was an out of town bride Leah was super easy to work with, and her appreciation of art and design helped in creating flowers that were a true collaboration.  Before I started working in this industry I never realized how well you get to know each and everyone of your clients, and so far it has been a great experience.

love, emily
