Inspiration: Cynthia Rowley Bouquet Recipe

Fashion Week was last week, and it inspired me to finally use this amazing Cynthia Rowley ribbon to create a bouquet.  As soon as I saw it at Jo-ann Fabric and Crafts, and I just had to have it.  The colorful confetti look makes me want to drop everything and party!  The natural choice for flowers was a mix of lots of bright fun colors, and being a texture lover I grabbed lots of fun novelty stems like green trick, thistle, and celosia!  Hope everyone had a fabulous fashion week, I love living vicariously through all your style pics and runway shows!

Yellow Pom Poms and Butterflies

Right now we're in the depths of wedding season, busy, busy, busy, but back in February and March things were a bit slower.  When I haven't had a chance to work with flowers I always get the itch.  I went to the market and did a little flower shopping grabbing some bright colore orange ranunculus, and lots of textural elements like heather, acacia, and thistle (does anyone love acacia as much as me?)  I added a few little butterflies for a bit of pink and wrapped it all up with a sweet bit of grosgrain ribbon from Paper Source.  Ah, this little bouquet definitely did the trick! Floral Friday: A Sorbet Themed Shower Shoot

Yesterday I shared a behind the scenes look at the photo shoot I was so excited to style for KC Weddings Magazine.  Today I've got the some images form the magazine.  It always amazes me how a photo can make all the details look so amazing, and the KC Weddings photographers definitely know what they're doing.

Floral Friday: Gold Leaf and Sherbert

When KC Weddings does their bouquet photo shoot they contact all kinds of different floral designers around Kansas City.  Usually there's a theme in mind, for instance I made this bouquet for the last shoot which was all about using items other than flowers.  This time the challenge was to create an inexpensive bouquet to show budget brides that they can have beautiful flowers without spending a fortune.  I've been really loving the soft pastel color palette that's been so on trend for next year, and of course I had to throw in a few bright touches with sherbert colored zinnias as well.

The flowers that I chose are what most people traditionally consider filler flowers such as carnations, stock, chrysanthemums, and baby's breath.  However used in a similar color palette, and lots of them they make a big impact, and a charming display.  I also added in some dusty miller leaves, and home grown zinnias from my own backyard, and wrapped it all up in grey satin ribbon with a vintage trim of gold leaves.

For the Love of Flower: Kristi and Joe, October 2011

Kristi and Joe's wedding was a bit different than usual because I didn't do the personal flowers.  Instead they were put together by some designers I really admire, Blue Bouquet.  However I really loved working on their wedding at The Hobbs Building, which is actually where my husband and I had our reception.  Kristi definitely wanted to embrace the fall vibe, but didn't want it to be the usual palette of oranges, reds, and golds.  Blue Bouquet came up with a beautiful concept that included soft peaches and pinks, alongside dark crimson dahlias, and smokebush.  Kristi also wanted us to add in dried green hydrangea that she and her mom had purchased.  I'd never worked with them before but they were fabulous and really filled out the arrangements nicely.  A big thank you to Kristi and Joe for letting us be part of your day!

For the Love of Flowers: Melissa and Shawn, September 2011

I've known Melissa, and her twin sister Marcia, since I was 6 years old.  We went to gradeschool together all the way from Kindergarten to eigth grade.  Our families used to go to Pizza Hut every week to cash in our "Book It" certificates (anyone remember those), and play Street Fighter on an old school video game machine.  Our parents remain great friends to this day, and they even attended my own wedding.  When Melissa asked me to do her flowers the answer was of course yes!  She and her mom had chosen a bright fun color palette with a dark mocha brown accent.  They were attracted to simple arrangments of candles and rose petals, and textural bouquets.  I was lucky enough to get my hands on some amazing magenta garden roses for Melissa's bridal bouquet.  All in all an easy and fun event to be a part of!

For the Love of Flowers: John and Jessica

John and Jessica were married in July, and it goes without saying that it was HOT!  It's one of the few weddings where I was truly concerned about whether or not the flowers were going to make it through the day, but as you can see from the pics everything stayed fresh and lovely.  This was a super fun wedding to work on, as soon as Jessica pulled out the aqua ribbon at the consult I knew it was right up my alley.  Thanks so much for letting us be part of your day guys!
