Inspiration and Editorial Shoots: 1950's Wedding at Longview Mansion

I-CV74vkR-XL
Lord knows we absolutely adore a good inspiration shoot now and then.  We got together with the same team that brought you our Bohemian Love Shoot, except this time with a 1950's flair.  The venue, Longview Mansion, is a gorgeous piece of Kansas City history, and once again the talents of Cassandra Castaneda Photography, and rak designs, along with our florals brought the inspiration to life.  When the girls told me what we were doing I immediately started looking at pictures of bouquets from the 50's.  One thing that stood out was of course babies breath, lots of pastel colors, and big blooms.  I also remember seeing a very old photo of a 1950's bride.  All she was wearing was one giant orchid as a corsage, so I knew I wanted to include them in the flowers.  It was super windy, super balmy summer day, but our models were amazing, and we got some great shots to add to our portfolios.

Inspiration: Cynthia Rowley Bouquet Recipe

Fashion Week was last week, and it inspired me to finally use this amazing Cynthia Rowley ribbon to create a bouquet.  As soon as I saw it at Jo-ann Fabric and Crafts, and I just had to have it.  The colorful confetti look makes me want to drop everything and party!  The natural choice for flowers was a mix of lots of bright fun colors, and being a texture lover I grabbed lots of fun novelty stems like green trick, thistle, and celosia!  Hope everyone had a fabulous fashion week, I love living vicariously through all your style pics and runway shows!

Inspiration: Bohemian Wedding Styled Shoot

I've was lucky enough, this summer, to work with an amazing team of women on a few different inspiration shoots.  When Cassandra and Kristen contacted me about taking part, I was super excited.  I live for these types of projects, it's always so much fun to collaborate with other creatively minded people.  They sent me an inspiration board, and told me what they had in mind, and I ran with the flowers from there.  The results were so lovely, and our models (a real married couple) were such troopers in the ridiculous heat.  Plus we were lucky enough to be published on one of my favorite wedding blogs, Ruffled.  Thanks so Cassandra Castaneda Photography, Rak Designs, and Porello Girls for including me!

Floral Friday: A Sorbet Themed Shower Shoot

Yesterday I shared a behind the scenes look at the photo shoot I was so excited to style for KC Weddings Magazine.  Today I've got the some images form the magazine.  It always amazes me how a photo can make all the details look so amazing, and the KC Weddings photographers definitely know what they're doing.

Styling: A Sorbet Themed Shower Shoot Behind the Scenes

Fresh off the plane from Chicago I was able to participate in styling a shoot for the Spring/Summer issue of KC Weddings Magazine thanks to my sweet friend, and former editor Elyse.  It was the first time they've done an entertaining shoot and I was honored.  I came up with a sorbet concept, and added in the touch of mint green to give everything a fresh feel.  The grey was a nice neutral, and the chevron patterned runners and napkins were a modern counterpoint to the vintage glassware.  I gathered all the supplies, set up the tables, and did the flower arrangements.  It was a lot of work, but totally worth it for the beautiful end result.

There were so many great vendors that helped me with the shoot, I couldn't have done it without them.  A big thanks to: Iced Art, Sorelle Pie Bakery, Bloom Baking Company, Glace, Pryde's Old Westport, Ultrapom, and Mr.&Mrs. Weddings and Events, Lilah Paper, The General Store.  Stay tuned, I'll share the actual spread from KC Wedding's tomorrow.
