Real Weddings: Elizabeth and Josh, Kansas City

fall bridal bouquet
Elizabeth is a DIY kind of gal, so for her wedding she just need a few personal flowers, and she handled the ceremony and reception decor.  A classic fall bouquet went perfectly with the simple black bridsmaids dresses and black tuxes.  We added in fun textural elements like green trick, and billy balls, and the giant orange dahlias were simply beautiful.  Photos by Lindsay Pierce Photography and emmy-ray.

Real Weddings Carissa and Todd, The Elms, Excelsior Springs

Fall wedding
Carissa and Todd's wedding was a true collaboration.  When I showed up to our first consult Carissa's mom, Dana, had already collected all the vases for the tables.  Talk about prepared!  Their event was taking place at the newly remodeled Elms Hotel, in Excelsior Springs.  A beautiful historic spot, with an outdoor space for the ceremony.  Unfortunately it was rainy and humid on the first day of September, but we made due in the ballroom with a beautiful ceremony (all the decor for the ceremony was created by Dana).  We were really happy with how everything turned out, and Carissa and Todd loved it, which was the most important part (and Dana as well).

A big thank you to Dana and Carissa for collaborating with us on this lovely event, and to Morgan at Cornerstone Photography for the images.

Garden rose bouquet

Carissa carried a classic, romantic bouquet full of ivory dahlias, ranunculus, and garden roses.

Ranunculus boutonnieres

Instead of traditional pin corsages we made brooches out of fresh flowers and incorporated vintage rhinestone jewelry for a bit of sparkle.  Bouts were textural with ranunculus, scabiosa pods, and berries.

Peach garden roses and orange dahlias

The bridesmaids wore beautiful poppy orange dresses and had bouquets with garden roses, dahlias, and ranunculus.

Rose petal lined aisle
The ceremony took place in the grand ballroom, and all the decor was provided to us by Dana, the mother of the bride, we just set it up.  Loved those beautiful fabric flower pomanders!

Orange peach and ivory arrangements
Half of the tables had vases provided by Dana were filled with twig balls for a touch of brown, along with fluffy white hydrangeas, beautiful orange roses, and touches of pink, and accents of sparkling crystal.

Carnation pomander centerpiece

The other half of the tables had pomanders in orange, peach, and ivory.  We wanted a sort of ombre effect.

If you notice the place settings Dana also made napkin wraps and menue cards for every guest, and butterfly escort cards as well.

Ivory floral linen
The sweetheart table was covered in a gorgeous ivory rose linen, super fluffy, and romantic.  We just added the flowers for a little touch of color.

Sweetheart table
Vintage glassware and tons of candles filled the mantel.  We supplied the blooms.

And although I had absolutely nothing to do with the cake, I just had to include it because, yes, Dana, the mother of the bride made it as well (she bakes cakes).

Such a lovely day, we were happy to be a part of it!

For the Love of Flowers: Rachel and Adam, November 2011

I'm still playing catch up from last years weddings, and I'm really excited to share this one.  Not only was it such a fun wedding to work on (the red roses were AMAZING), but it was for one of my husband and I's dear friends.  Matt became friends with Rachel during law school.  Her and Adam are a great couple, they really compliment each other, and have a long history together as friends.  They got married at The Vox Theatre, an old silent movie theatre that has been turned into an event space.  The stage has a huge red curtain so Rachel decided to embrace the color palette.  We also thought it would be fun to embrace the "old hollywood" glamour look, and added dramatic black feathers and hanging crystals.  A big thank you to Adam and Rachel for letting us be a part of their day, we love you guys!

For the Love of Flowers: Emmie and Ben

One of my favorite current color combo trends for 2011 is aqua and red/pink, so when I met with Emmie I was super excited that this was the palette for her and Ben's wedding.  Unfortunately for this lovely couple they were booked at the Stowe Building (a Kansas City venue that got shut down), but they handled the situation gracefully and everything turned out beautiful.  We were able to inject their personality into their day, and give it the eclectic vibe they were wanting.  It was such a fun wedding to work on, and I can't thank Emmie and Ben enough for choosing us as the designers for their big day.

My So Called Life: 4th of July

This past weekend was absolutely glorious.  With no weddings, and no social plans, Matt and I took the entire 4 days to ourselves to relax and enjoy each others company.  It might sound boring, but I think that it's always worth it to take a break every once in awhile and recharge, especially since I have 4 weddings coming up in the next two weeks!  Don't get me wrong I love what I do, and I love being busy, but everyone needs to rest once in awhile right?

For 4th of July we spent the day at Matt's parents house, and then headed out to my cousins for the annual BBQ.  We ate lots of good food, and enjoyed fireworks on the golf course to end the night.  It was a pretty perfect way to end the weekend.

We had a photo shoot with my cousins dogs and my two little sisters.  Needless to say things got a little silly (Tara's telling Guiness a secret?)

Floral Friday: Hot Colors from La Partie Events

It's no secret that I love color, the brighter the better for me.  So when I saw this wedding shoot with La Partie Events I couldn't help but do a post about it.  These are all the colors that I used in my own wedding two years ago, with a little pop of royal blue as an accent (as if you need an accent with all these vibrant shades).

This runner and bouquet are so lovely.  Although the flowers are traditional, the graduated shades of dark red to orange with all the colors in between make these modern and fresh feeling.  Check out La Partie Events online for lots of wedding inspiration.

Happy Friday everyone!

For the Love of Flowers: Ellen and Brian, Part I

This weekend two of our friends got married, and I was lucky enough to be asked to do the flowers.  Brian and Ellen are not only such a fun couple to hang out with, but it's easy to tell that they are very much in love and we couldn't be happier for them.  We started planning Ellen's wedding flowers over a year in advance, and decided on a fall color palette. The flowers ended up integrating perfectly with the reception sites decor, and there were over 200 candles that provided plenty of ambiance.

The bridesmaids bouquets had a textural mix of flowers including roses, dahlias, scabiosa pods, cockscomb and more.

In her bouquet the bride specifically wanted two flowers, white roses which Brian's mother had in her wedding bouquet, and Stephanotis which were in Ellen's mothers bouquet on her wedding day.  I added in dahlias, hydrangeas and some other white flowers for extra texture.
