For the Love of Flowers: Kelly and Luis

We've done a lot of white weddings this summer.  People always ask me, "Don't you get tired of doing all white weddings?"  I'm a huge fan of color, but there's something so beautiful and classic about the all white color scheme that just never gets old.  Kelly and Luis were an awesome couple to work with.  I met with them last year, and they were laid back, but definitely had a clear vision of what they wanted for their day.  The blooms came in beautiful, and they were so happy with the results.  A big thank you to Kelly and Luis for letting emmy-ray be a part of your guys day!  And also thanks to Peter Bang for the awesome pics (he's a D.C. based photographer, a friend of Luis from back in the day).

The bridal bouquet was a mix of white dendro orchids, calla lilies, hydrangeas, lisianthus, tulips and white lilies.  The bridesmaids bouquets were a mix of lisianthus, stock, dahlias, and white tulips, wrapped in champagne/gold ribbon.

For the flower girl we did a white pomander with carnations and orchids, and the guys boots were classic dendro orchids, and a few loops of lily grass.

For the reception tables Kelly and Luis wanted a mix of different arrangements to add dimension to the space.  The ballroom for the wedding had high ceilings so we did a mix of tall arrangements with some shorter submerged flower vases and bell jars mixed in.

The Money Pit: A Sea of Zinnias

So as promised the zinnias have bloomed, and despite this brutal heat have continued to spring up.  I think one of my very favorite things about this flower is that each one is truly individual.  Different colors and variations, each one's a little piece of eye candy.

I finally have my own scabiosa's in the garden.  They're some of my favorites!

And as always some cute nuggets, just because...

The Money Pit: In the Garden (Summer 2011)

So I always complain to my husband about people who don't update their blogs, saying things like "why even have a blog", and "how hard is it to just update once a week?".  However low and behold, look who I've turned into, the once a month poster.  My apologies friends.  The good news, it's all due to being incredibly busy with tons of projects, and it's just plain silly not share them here, right?

I'll ease into things with some shots from around the house and in the garden that I took last week.  I really, really love my camera (a Canon Rebel T1i), and often forget how much I like taking pictures just for fun until I get around to snapping some shots.  I'm by no means a photographer, but with the image quality this thing produces it's hard not to "get into it".

Rose bush in our back yard, and no I didn't alter the colors, they really are just that bright and lovely.

The first zinnia buds of the year.  I grew them from seeds and there's going to be a million of them.  I'll share more pics once they start blooming.

The day lilies are O.O.C. this year, some are almost 5 feet tall.

Matt arriving home from work, and the also gigantic rudbeckia growing next to the garage.

Red asiatic lilies and coneflower buds.

And some gratuitous dog pictures, just because I can't help myself...

Thanks for touring my garden.  What are you growing at your house/apartment this year?

Summertime In the Garden

Hello lovelies, it's another week, does it feel like the summer if just flying by to anyone else?  I'm going to have a friend in from out of town this week, so I'm trying to get all my blogging done ahead of time.

One of my favorite things about summer is the flowers that I'm able to grow.  So many different kinds, and each year I plant a mix of seeds in the circle in the middle of our backyard.  It's always fun to see what comes up each year.

Flynn's quite camera shy, he never wants his picture taken.

Hazel however is quite the ham...

And Ollie is always busy standing guard, ever the ferocious 10 lb watch dog.

Thanks for looking at pictures of my garden.  Tomorrow I'm sharing a fun before and after furniture project.  Stay tuned!
