Handmaker of Things is turning into video central! It's "Make Something Monday" and I've got a brand new tutorial lined up for you. This is video one of two valentines projects, and todays felt heart tutorial is super versatile. I'll be showing you how to make a necklace, earrings, and a ring, so you can choose what fun hand made item you want to give to your family or friends. Check it out, I hope you love it!
Also you may recognize the character "Sam". She's the lovely Heidi, one of my friends from high school and I also did her wedding flowers back in August. If you like the video you can vote it "Funny" on the Funny or Die website. Show them some love!
Floral Friday is still happening, but it's got a new home, Middle of the Map Weddings. I'll still be sharing the beautiful flowers and designers that inspire me, but it will just be happening on my brand new blog all about midwestern wedding style. This week I'm happy to share a wedding from Hello Darling, a talented Chicago florist. Pop on over and check it out, you won't be sorry!
For the past year I was a member of a local group called the Wedding Hive. It was a Kansas City organization focused on providing an outlet for indie wedding vendors to promote their businesses. I functioned as the blogger and social network admin for the group, and got to know so many wonderful and talented local designers and business owners as a result. At the end of 2010 the Wedding Hive decided to disband, however I wanted to continue to blog about all the amazing people I've met, and have yet to meet in the wedding industry.
Thus Middle of the Map Weddings was born. My hope is to create a site that inspires brides to be, as well as other vendors, with beautiful images of real weddings in the midwest. I also plan on doing DIY tutorials of different projects to help brides create hand made details for their big day, as well as features on indie vendors.
I hope you'll join me in my newest adventure. Please visit the site, add me to your Reader, and join us on Facebook and Twitter. I couldn't do any of these projects without you guys, so thanks for your support!
There's been a lot of buzz out there lately about fiber artist Olek. You probably have seen her most recent work, the darling Wall Street Bull:
I am a huge fan of knit and crochet graffiti. We have a group her in Kansas City, Knit Happens, that did a few light poles in my neighborhood. They always made me so happy when I'd drive by them. They haven't done any new work for awhile, get on it guys!
I did a little more research on Olek and found some more of her awesome work. So here's a few videos and some of my favorite images from her website:
I found this adorable wedding over on the Ruffled blog the other day. It combines some of what I think are the best trends in weddings right now: succulents, milk glass, mason jars, and of course DIY. The bride, Rachel, did almost all of the decor, including growing and creating all of the succulent centerpieces. Get it girl!
Loving this super textural green and white bouquet. The little scabiosa pods are some of my favorites and working with succulents in a bouquet is such a joy (since they stay fresh forever).
Find tons more images of this wedding and more inspiration over at the Ruffled Blog.
Plus check out their "Recycle Your Wedding" section where you can buy and sell all those vases, favors, and display items you have left-over from you own event. Recycling+party planning=AWESOME!
I've spent the entire day almost re-organizing my whole closet. It seems that I never have enough space for all my shoes and clothes. Maybe I have too many...eh on second thought who could have too much fashion? My favorite thing about cleaning out my closet? Finding pieces that I forgot about, or haven't worn in awhile.
Since I didn't get around to writing a post today I figured it would be a perfect time to bring back Gratuitous Picture of Yourself Wednesday. This was a weekly post on my very first blog, and since I never post pictures of myself I figured it would be a good way to show you guys, hey I do exist and here's what I look like...
Me and Claudia, NYE this year at a friends wedding. I wanted my make-up to be extra festive, so I really went for it with the blue eye-shadow.
I hope you all enjoyed last weeks video. I really enjoy this medium of blogging because it allows me to combine two of my favorite things, crafting and creativity with video shooting and editing. I won't be posting one every single week, however my goal is to bring my crafty goodness to you at least twice a month. This week I'm working on two projects for Make Something Monday, both of them are cute valentines day crafts/gifts. I'll give you a hint:
To feed your appetite for crafty goodness, here's a couple of fun images I found via Pinterest from an awesome blog, Family Chic. She has all kinds of simple Valentines tutorials that would make super easy projects. All you need is some wire, and yarn for these two:
A sweet little "Love" sign
These yarn hearts would look great hanging in your window!
So go ahead and make something, and stay tuned for next weeks projects!
I'm so excited to give a big shout out to one of my crafty friends Dayle today. We met through various Kansas City creative events, and she sells the cutest products through her brand Sodapop. Dayle is a handmaker of things who has been working hard to make her business dreams come true and has just launched a new venture with her friend Melissa, Dayle and Eve Living.
And here's Dayle and her P.I.C. Melissa
Please support this great new venture by checking out their website, and joining their Facebook and Twitter groups.
I can't wait to see what inspiring things these two creative masterminds are going to come up with. Congrats guys!
Who doesn't love a good video? And with all the media that's available there's something out there for everyone. Every Saturday I'll be posting a video that I am loving right now, whether it's inspiring, nostalgic, personal, or just plain silly.
p.s. I meant to do this last Saturday, but had some technical difficulties, so this week you're getting a twofer. Enjoy!
Video One: Club Drunk Party Hands
It's no secret I'm a sucker for pop music. If it's got a beat, and I can dance to it I love it (no matter how bad it is). Here's a fun mash-up I found via a friend on Facebook, it puts me in the mood to party!
Video Two: Thanks for the Memories
My 2010 video wrap up of some of the moments and events from last year. I love collecting memories for my family and friends, and making videos is one of my favorite ways to share them.
I've been drooling this week over the latest issue of Nonpareil Magazine, one of my favorite sources of wedding inspiration. Plus the beautiful table settings, and other event details make me consider taking up event planning as a whole. Here's a few of my favorite floral images:
Find more loveliness in the latest issue, or in any of the back issues.
Valentines Day is quickly approaching (does anyone else feel like January is flying by?) and I've had lace on my mind all season long since it's been such a trend in fashion. So what could be more appropriate than an Etsy Love post all about some great lace inspired pieces?
I LOVE this one! Belgian Lace Ring via dillondesign
There have been plenty of times that I find a cute item of clothing and I'm just not sure how to style it. I consider myself pretty innovative with my own sense of style, but some lovely pieces pose special challenges. So it's always nice to have great fashion blogs to turn to for styling advice. Enter "This Time Tomorrow", one of my favorite fashionistas.
Her outfits always have lots of layers and fun elements (especially the shoes an accessories). Plus she gets a lot of her items from thrift stores, F21, Urban, or H&M, so the style she demonstrates isn't unattainable for the average girl. Plus her hair, ugh, it's to die for! Here's a few of my favorite recent outfit posts:
This one's my favorite, love the pastel florals with the black and leather:
plus I have those shoes (but have yet to wear them).
